Auto Body Shop or Paintless Dent Repair?
When you have a dent in your vehicle, how much it’s going to cost is always on your mind, Plus, how long is the repair going to take? There are several ways to address a door ding, dent, or hail damage, and the top two are Auto Body Shops or Paintless Dent Repair (PDR).
How to choose?
If you have these issues, an Auto Body Shop is the right way to go:
- Cracked, badly damaged paint
- Dent is too close to the edge of a panel
- Frame damage
- Car parts are damaged, typically side view mirrors, etc.
If your dent fits these parameters, then PDR will save you time and money:
- Paint around the dent is not severely damaged.
- However, paint can sometimes appear to be damaged in the case of a surface scuff, typically caused by door dings leaving a thin film of paint. If you are not sure, bring it by and let us look at it. We have a paint scratch repair technician for bumper scuffs and minor body work
- Hail Storm Damage.
- Dents caused by hail rarely require the services of an auto body shop. Typically, when you take your car to an Auto Body Shop for hail damage repair, they are going to sub out the work to an out of town PDR specialist anyways.
- Time and Money.
- If your dent is smaller than the size of a quarter, it can be repaired with PDR in an hour or two, not days or weeks. Larger dents may take several days, but this will still be far quicker than the time it takes to repair at a body shop. Best of all PDR is always a less expensive option!
